BRCS Nepal at a glance......

About BRCS Nepal

BRCS Nepal is a national NGO, was established by a group of like-minded individuals with long years of direct experiences with Nepal’s bio-physical and socio-economic development in 2007. It focuses the research and development and creates the community development among the indigenous and marginalized people. BRCS envisions the people from its operating areas developing a better standard of living. Creation of community awareness among the indigenous people and school students on nature conservation in the affected community (nearby national park and wildlife reserve/conservation areas) is an important aspect of BRCS Nepal. A better standard of living should also subsume elements of sustainability, hence it is not only greater economic resources for families, but it is also a more equitable and harmonious society and communities, individuals from which work together to transform society and economy. BRCS envisions helping the people to discover more remunerative and viable ways of making a living out of their land and other natural resources and skills. It envisions that marginalized members of the community like the dalits families and women become more actively involved in development endeavors. Heightened consciousness is a condition for widening horizons which, in turn, is a condition for the development of mutually advantageous linkages with other parts of Nepal and aboard.

BRCS-Nepal has been conducting the community development programmes in one hand where as linkage between biodiversity conservation and rural livelihood improvement in other hand.

We seek to fulfill our visions and mission with the following programmatic goals and objectives:

  1. To conduct creative and participatory action research to improve the social and economic situations of the people.
  2. To conduct the various research on climate change, environment, renewable energy and species conservation.
  3. To conduct the disaster risk reduction program among the indigenous people in the affected districts
  4. Capacity building of indigenous people and local clubs through different value based trainings and workshops
  5. To conduct the emergency response (urgent support) for the flood affected people.
  6. Habitat mapping and conservation threats of endangered species of globally significant.
  7. To launch the environment conservation programmes for affecting better livelihoods for the present generation without adversely affecting livelihoods of the future generation.
  8. To promote and conserve local resources and other means with due attention to local values and norms.
  9. To conduct training programmes to upgrade skills and capacities of local groups as and when required.
  10. To help and strengthen existing NGOs, people-based organization and local organization.
  11. To promote and extend regenerative (sustainable) agriculture systems and to promote income generative activities like fruit and vegetable production.
  12. To facilitate socio-cultural, economic and political participation of the Dalit people by organizing awareness rising programmes.
  13. To facilitate socio-cultural, economic and political participation of other disadvantaged ethnic groups by conducting awareness raising activities.
  14. Rehabilitation of degraded land

ABOUT CONFERENCE

Biodiversity Research and Conservation Society (BRCS) was planned to organize the second International Conference on Environmental Justice, Climate Change and Biodiversity (ICECB)  in Kathmandu, Nepal  (Country of Mt. Everest, panoramic of unparalleled beauty and geographical diversity, and multidimensional legacy encompasses various ethnic, tribal, and social groups which each contain differing styles of folk music, art, language, literature, philosophy, religion, festivals, food and drink).Environmental justice, climate change and biodiversity are the hottest issues in the global scenario. In the present situation, environmental security is often compared with the human right. The most of the people who reside in the industrialized and polluted areas, have highly suffered from environmental degradation /destruction or environmental injustice. Losing the species diversity is the major problem due to the impacts of climate change which is major threats of biodiversity conservation. The best way to conserve biodiversity is to save habitats and ecosystems rather than trying to save a single specie

The main objective of the ICECB-2012 is to provide a forum to researchers for exploring their research results, to organize the interaction among the natural resource managers, planners and decision makers in a common forum, to translate the results into policy formulation and planning, and to facilitate and guide the international travelers to know the culture and beautiful Himalaya settings of Nepal very closely. Form this international conference; organizers have realized the two most important aspects:  One is: researchers, planner, policy maker, naturalists, teachers and even the student around the world will get an opportunity to explore their research findings, knowledge and skills during the conference using two-way interaction model. At the same time, other is: capacity building of the young conservationist would be enhanced which helps to draw the sketch of world map towards natural resource management for the sustainable future.

Objective of the Conference

  • To provide a forum to researchers for exploring their research results.
  • To build the capacity of the young researchers and students towards sustainable natural resource management.
